Ohio Hous Dems plug School Funding Gaps

The Athens News - When Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland released his much-anticipated state school-funding proposal earlier this year, some local concerns began to crop up with regard to potential flatlines and cuts for area school districts, as well as Strickland’s inclusion of federal stimulus package dollars potentially displacing regular state aid.

But Ohio House Democrats went to work addressing these concerns and have released their own altered version of the plan that separates the stimulus-package money from the state budget and provides area school districts with increased funds.

The changes were made in conjunction with various state stakeholders, a release from House Democrats stated, as well as hearing from over 320 witnesses during 50-plus hours of testimony before the Primary and Secondary Education Subcommittee of the House Finance and Appropriations Committee.
